FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW DANCE STUDIO TO OPEN IN WAUNAKEE THIS JUNE
Midwest Performance Arts, a new dance studio in the Waunakee area, will be opening this June, the company recently announced.
Meghan McDermott, Artistic Director and head instructor at MPA, said the studio will be focused on providing a strong technical base for their students through optimal placement and highly trained professional instructors. The school will provide programs ranging from pre-dance to pre-professional.
The studio will be located at 604 E. Suite 1B on Main Street in Waunakee.
McDermott is a native of south-central Wisconsin who has spent the past ten years as a professional dancer and dance instructor in the Chicago area. As a member of Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago she performed for five seasons and appeared on the cover of the August 2007 issue of Dance Magazine. Since leaving Giordano in 2009, McDermott has been teaching at the North Shore School of Dance as the head of the jazz department, and the director of the North Shore Repertory Dance Ensemble.
“We decided to open in Waunakee and return to our Wisconsin roots. Wisconsin is where I first learned to dance, and the level of enthusiasm for dance arts in Waunakee, and its surrounding communities, is a great atmosphere to share all the knowledge I’ve gained during my career,” McDermott said.
The school’s program will also include the opportunity to be a part of three youth dance companies which will offer extra performances and work with guest choreographers. “We want to expose our students a large breadth of dance styles,” McDermott said, “both within the school and from renowned dance professionals as often as possible.”
Midwest Performing Arts will be putting on its first production, The Magic of the Nutcracker, in December, choreographed by MPA faculty and guest choreographer Ashley Grantin.
